ISRO or Indian Space Research Organisation is planning to mine energy from moon by 2030 to meet indias energy need. So far plan is to mine Helium-3 rich lunar dust and send back to earth. Project look ambitious but not  impossible.

Former chief of BrahMos Aerospace Dr Sivathanu Pillai said all of India’s energy requirements could be met through Helium 3 mined from the Moon.

“By 2030, this process target will be met,” .

He was elaborating ISRO’s future plans while delivering the valedictory address at the three-day ORF-Kalpana Chawla Space Policy Dialogue, organised by Observer Research Foundation.

There are other countries also working on the same project and there are enough Helium-3 in moon which if obtained can solve entire world’s energy requirement.

India currently imports 80 % of its oil and around 17% in natural gas requirements which costs India somewhere between £120bn to £140bn and by 2030 it will be doubled as per research.
