First of all we need to know what is Robotic manipulator  and why we need this in our everyday life.

Scientific Definition of Robotic Manipulator is : It is a type of mechanical arm usually programmable , with similar functions to a human arm, the arm may be the sum total of the mechanism or may be part of a more complex robot. The links of such a manipulator are connected by joints allowing either rotational motion (such as in an articulated robot) or transnational (linear) displacement. The terminus of the kinematic chain of the manipulator is called the end effector and it is analogous to the human hand.

Various types of robotic arm are available in market which are used for either industrial work or personal assistance for patients. We can categorize robotic manipulator by their applicability in working atmosphere.

Industrial Robotic Arm                                                              Personal Assisting or homely Robotic Arm

  1. KUKA (6DOF)                                                                               1. Kinova MICO²(6DOF or DOF)
  2.  SCARA   (4DOF)                                                                           2.Kinova JACO²(7DOF)
  3. PUMA 560(6DOF)

Industrial Robotic arm are used for laborious and efficient work which a man can’t do normally. Sometimes heavy load or hazardous work or more precise work like welding ,finding line crack in dam or bridge is not possible by a normal human, that time we are mostly dependent on robotic manipulator .

Personal Assisting Robotic Arm are basically used for physically disabled people who need help to do their regular work even patients with some accidental injury or permanent disabled people also can use light weighted robotic arm for their livings without depending upon anyone.

In my next article I’ll be explicit about these two type of robotic arm and their working procedure.
